Contributed Rakeback

Basically there are three different methods of calculating rake: the contributed method which this article is about, the dealt method and Ongame Essence.

The contributed method is the most common method when calculating rake but we have to distinguish between the average contributed method and the weighted contributed method.

What is the average contributed method of calculating rake?

Simply speaking, it´s dividing the amount of rake taken out of the pot between the players who made a contribution to the pot. In order to receive rakeback you have to put money in the pot. This means, if you folded before the flop and didn´t contribute to the pot you don´t get credit for any rake.

Example:
$40 in the pot / $2.00 in rake / 10 players in the game
6 players folded before the flop and 4 players contributed to the pot (saw the flop). The players who contributed to the pot get credit for $0.5 in MGR each.

What is the weighted contributed method of calculating rake?

The weighted method of calculating rake is like the average contributed method, but each player gets credited in relation to the absolute amount of money he actually contributed to the pot.

Example:
The pot is $50 (rake $2.50) and three players contributed money. Player A $10, Player B $20 and Player C $20. Player A contributed 20% and gets $0.50 credit in MGR. Player B and Player C $1.00 (40%) each.
